grinding & clashing of mental gears...
Sep. 4th, 2005 11:01 amYesterday, in addition to moving house from the hotel to a rented flat, I volunteered to do some overtime at the office yesterday, involving comparing some fairly large excel spreadsheets so that any discrepancies could be found out. After several hours work, the scale of the problem was determined & we all left at about 4:30. On the way back, Carole phoned me on my mobile and I left the metro a stop early so that I could chat to her cos going through tunnels plays hell with the signal.
Anyway, as a result of this, I had absolutely no idea where I was, so I started following signs for Amsterdam Centraal station, cos i know that its relatively close to the flat. As it had been a rather long day, my head was full of excel spreadsheets and navigating back to the flat so that I could get some lunch, when my eyes started informing me that there was something up ahead that I had better pay attention to.
It was a woman leaning out of a window, with not a lot on. Spinning round in sudden confusion, my eyes reported that I was surrounded by them. My brain did something along the lines of: [bafflement] How peculiar! How does this relate to finding the flat? Or mapping the excel spreadsheets? At this point, a young oriental woman dressed in a glitterly golden bikini leaned out of doorway, smiled at me and said "Hi", with a slightly coy smile.
Being a sensible & educated Englishman, I uttered a witty & erudite statement that I am sure will stay with her forever. And me. I opened my mouth, inhaled and then blurted out "but you've got no clothes on!" rather louder than I had expected.
I blinked at her. She blinked at me. I turned and ran towards the safety of the train station, my brain reeling all the way. And all I could think of was the fact that it wasn't even factually accurate...
...way to go brain...
