Sep. 11th, 2005 11:28 amAfter much grinding & gnashing of teeth, we've finally found shopping options near the new place; its probably going to involve getting home deliveries, but thats not too bad, 'cos we dont seem to be near any convenient supermarkets & are going to be functioning without a car for at least 6 months - and quite possibly longer.
By "convenient supermarkets" I mean, "those that are within 10 minutes easy walk", cos I've been spoiled rotten by having access to a car (when in the UK) and being so close to supermarkets (living in central Amsterdam at present); I also admit that we've not checked everything out about the new place, so there could be a supermarket hidden just around the corner of the new place - but I doubt it.
Supermarkets here are peculiar too - they're pretty much everywhere (except near my house) and they're all rather small, being not much larger than glorified corner shops. They're usually hidden in odd places, like in basements under towerblocks, museums or, well, peoples houses. Strange. I am affronted that I dont have one within 2 minutes walk too, when everyone else seems to have one. Not fair! *pout*
I'm also almost 1000 Euro lighter as I bought myself a new TV (wide screen) and washing machine. Looking good for the new place - but, in typical peculiar Amsterdam fashion, the washing machine is to be installed at the top of the house. How strange.
