Sunday morning
Jan. 15th, 2006 11:40 amA very pleasant afternoon / evening yesterday was spent going through some of our old unmarked video cassettes to find out what was on them. A few episodes of old TV programs that were primarily on Caroles tapes, followed by an early 80's (and quite gripping) film about drug abuse in children, set in a rehab clinic. The film came on & we watched it for about an hour or so, and, just as it was building to the climax... someone recorded over the ending of it - ARS3!
Anyway, I finally figured out what it was, mainly thanks to the power of Star Trek - y'see I recognised one of the actors in it, but couldn't work out why he looked so 'odd' to me. At about 3am, my subconscious completed its processing and I went Ah-ha! Garrack from DS9! - and the reason he looked strange & yet familiar was that, instead of having that slick black Cardassian hairstyle & random reptillian make-up, he had an unruly mop of curly brown hair and looked. Well. Normal. Still had 'the eyes' though and that peculiar slightly sadronic speaking style (I cant explain it any better than I am, I'm sorry if this is making no sense at all), which was enough for me to work out the character, and thus the actor and thus the film: "Not My Child" (1985) It wasn't the best film ever, by we came in half way through and missed the ending, so it became important for me to work out what it was. Also, I couldn't work out the ending of it - the main character (the daughter) could go either way, redemption or remission. It would be interesting to see if she made it.
Anyway, today will see me at home, mainly reading, whilst Carole goes off to Haarlem to go hashing. I'm planning on starting to go on a once a month basis, from the start of Feb - when both of our birthdays are out of the way.
