Month-end & stuff
Feb. 1st, 2006 01:44 pmWell, we’re in full flow for month-end, even if we don’t seem to really have finished the chaos that was year end. We’re now juggling several projects simultaneously, and its beginning to show as the month end adjustments and the year-end adjustments are competing for pressure, but I am looking forward to Friday, when I have but one more day to endure and then I’m off for a long weekend thanks to C’s birthday bash. Who knows, I might even feel like drinking something again – at least I’ll have Allie & Gareth over from tomorrow. God knows I’ve missed the Leeds social circle something rotten.
(Vaguely) on the topic of ‘trying to make a social circle’, last nights Dutch course was interesting. It was allegedly for total beginners, but there was a wide variety of ability in the class, with people being completely out of their depth, whilst others were ‘quite advanced’ (to my untrained ear, at any rate). I’m near the middle of the classes ability range, but I’ve got problems stemming from my German lessons – I open my mouth to say something that is intended to be Dutch, and I drop into German. Oh well. Something to overcome at any rate. C’s class is tonight, so my plans involve reading peoples BNW orders in detail & trying to see if I can come up with… something.
In other news, one of my colleagues is really acting up; as I understand the issues, it stems from his year-end review, and this is not as good as he would like, and, as a result, he’s been dragging people into ever longer & ever more intense discussions, involving ever more senior people. My gut feeling is that he is playing the ‘correct this or I resign’ card (always the nuclear option, cos you’ve got to follow through as otherwise you can never play it again) and the brass are just not taking it. I expect a resignation fairly soon, if only because he left a meeting, grabbed his stuff & stormed out of the building with not a word to anyone – at this was at 11am & he’s not been seen since.
Right then. Back to it. Lots to do, especially since we seem to be a man down.
