Halfway through the week
Apr. 12th, 2006 01:04 pmYou can tell you’re going to have an interesting day when your boss has a deadline & a hangover & yesterday the computer systems were down for most of the afternoon, giving you a backlog of prodigious proportions. As you can gather, today has been… challenging.
On the other hand, I managed to get something close to 9 hours sleep last night, so I feel considerably more refreshed than I have been since the start of the quarter-end, meaning that I’ve managed to keep my optimism up – neatly aided by not having my confidence crushed at my Dutch lesson yesterday – through the simple expedient of not going to said lesson. In my defence, I was too tired and too busy to go at any reasonable time, and had always assumed that the Dutch lesson was a non-starter during the quarter-end – but, rest assured dear reader, I will return to my Dutch course next week!
In a belated update, Mondays weight was 86kilos, which is not good. Carole tells me that its because I’m jogging & doing exercise, but I doubt this. I’ve lead a fairly sedentary life for these last few weeks (working 13 hour days & longer will do that to you, I guess) and the alcohol consumption has also increased, what with the hash moving to Monday evenings & us also finding a nice (but rather expensive) pub just around the corner from us. In all, I think that the weight change is more due to ‘me being a fat b*st*rd’, rather than me undergoing some profound physiological transformation, in preparation for, um I dunno. Forming a chrysalis?
Right then. Back to it. With any luck, the back of the work will be broken by the end of today, meaning that the next 2 days should (SHOULD) be marginally better than the last week and a half. I might even be able to go & see V at the Imax this Friday evening (assuming, of course, that it doesn’t break on me again).
