Stay on target.... Stay on target....
Jul. 21st, 2006 08:56 amFriday. Almost over. Nearly there. I’ve almost finished with the tight-rope walking act that is my job (for the time being at least) & I’m a single step away from being on holiday for a week. Come 4pm, I’m out that door. I don’t care if I’m in a meeting, harried by demands on my time or caffeine-free. I leave at 4pm, as I’m on a train at 4:30 (or 4:56, if I miss that one). The plan is: off to Germany tonight, spend an evening drinking & chatting with friends just on the other side of the Netherlands-Germany border & then get back on a train at 10am tomorrow morning to get down to Southern Germany. From We're going to the Nabada festival & visit several friends down there & there is a good chance that I'll be given a proper tour of some choice German beers when down there. Way-hay!
Really looking forward to it, though I expect my Dutch & my German to enter into pitched combat for the brain cell that manages what language I am learning – though I think that they’ll first have to cooperate to force French out of there first. If Carole reports that I’ve reverted to pointing & grunting as my main form of communication, you’ll know what’s happened to me.
Feeling much much better now, all thanks to the power of English food. Essentially I was listless & wandering around the house yesterday evening & happened to mention to C that I had a pain in my lower back. On being told ‘that’s your kidneys’ I realised that I wanted salt. NOW! Several spoons of marmite later (eaten off the spoon, which is normally just revolting as its too strong for me, but it tasted heavenly) I felt considerably better - almost instantly - and this morning, I’m raring to go. Conclusion: I guess that my salt balance was screwed up from the heat.
Incidentally, before I finish, I have to ask, did anyone else watch the 10-minute program ‘Time Trumpet’ last night? I almost fell off my chair with laughter when “the girl with the voice of Boris Johnson” was shown. Absolutely superb.
Right then. 8 hours or so to struggle through.

PS Carole – send me the train timetable for me to print out! Otherwise it wont be a 10 hour journey, it’ll be a 14 hour journey with optional ‘extra stress’, free of charge.
