Well, despite the threats of being out of contact for almost 2 months, the local internet / cable TV company had delivered the parcels last week and I am now on-line, I am glad to report.
Sadly, there was a casualty: my PC didn't make it.
After much swearing & gnashing of teeth, C allowed me to go shopping with the full fury of someone who has just had their PC destroyed.
So I now have a new one, with Windows Vista, and none of my old files.
In addition, I'm experiencing the joys of wireness networking; I dont know how good this is, compared to 'wire-stuck in the back of the machine' broadband, but it seems adequately fast, all considered. Even if I were against it, however, I dont really have a chance; the modem is in the downstairs & I am at the top of the house. I´ve got an extension cable that runs down stairs (part of the way) & I get a semi-decent signal, but I intend to get a much longer extension cable & get those last 2 bars of signal...
Right then. House unpacking calls
