Last night as I left work – somewhat exhausted by the combination of early start & hayfever / cold - I was hunted down & finally cornered by a steely-eyed accordion wielding woman. She played a medley of identical sounding wheezing ditties on said ‘musical’ instrument, and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Instead she got closer & louder until I cracked. Which I did. I gave her 20 Euro cents in an attempt to make her go away – but only because it was the first unit of currency randomly found in my pocket. At the end I was getting perilously close to simply throwing my wallet over her shoulder to distract her & making a getaway bid via the emergency exit – but I’ve never jumped from a moving tram before.

For some reason, it reminded me of the other oddity I’ve seen on the tram: last week I encountered a middle-aged woman on the platform who was wearing very high-heeled boots. Nothing particularly unusual in that in itself – but the fact that she was also heavily dependent on a set of crutches to help her get around – whilst wearing said boots – struck me as somewhat incongruous. Surely a set of trainers would have been more appropriate?
