Friday night. There was a DVD & general social gathering at Jims – most enjoyable, if somewhat alcohol fuelled. We watched Peewee Hermans Big Adventure and then chatted until about 1am, which is exactly what I wanted. In all, a very relaxing & civilised evening & something that’s now being semi-arranged for every other Friday evening. We also arranged a day-trip trip to Essen to go shopping as things are about 25% cheaper over there. If I reach my weight goal (80 kilos), I might treat myself to some tech-goodies (Digital camera? New Phone? New Watch? That Austin Martin I’ve always wanted? My own, personalised Concorde?) Well, lets see how it goes. If I don’t get to 80 kilos, it’ll become a trip to buy industrial levels of cheap washing powder & pasta.

Saturday. We held our first meet-in event! It was a boardgames day at our place & out of the 8 guests we had invited, 6 turned up. Between us, we played Settlers of Catan, Ticket To Ride (twice) and Shadows over Camelot (twice). Ticket to Ride was the definite winner of the day, but Shadows was fun – if somewhat marred by people not grasping the rules. Nonetheless, we decided immediately that we’re running another games afternoon / evening & this has been arranged for the 16th July, so that should be fun. The event was cut short by a friends’ leaving do, but next time we also hope to have it go on a bit longer – possibly playing Bhonanza, Bausack, Villa Palletti & a few others. With any luck.

Sunday – we watched ‘The Queen’ on DVD (very good indeed – a DVD on the ‘will buy’ list) & cleaned up following the party. C went for a bike-ride, whilst I stayed in & read or watched an assortment of history things on the History Channel & Dr Who in the evening. I have to say that I’m impressed that that they’re playing up the darker aspects of the who-universe to good effect; one of the things that was lost during the bad years was the whole ‘mystery’, meaning that he became a clown with weird blue box & an even weirder Bonnie Langford.

Shudder.

Today – the weight is stable at 86 kilos (ok given 2 days of junk food over the weekend, but not terribly impressive) & I’m tempted to grow a moustache for tacheback anti-cancer campaign (C has given permission, so the details are here: www.tacheback.co.uk) but the day has basically started off on a bad foot with me not getting a seat on the (very hot & sticky) train & then arriving to a major problem that caused chaos over the weekend. Essentially it boils down to me doing what I’ve been told to do & now getting the blame for it - fortunately I’ve got an email chain backing my actions up, so I’m going to give them stick over this.
