Decision gridlock…
Jun. 7th, 2007 01:03 pmTodays questions – not to mention the questions of the last few weeks & months – are ‘where will we go on holiday’, ‘when will we go on holiday’ and ‘why cant we go on holiday then’?
So far we’ve tried to book something in June, July & August, all to no avail, as we’ve got people over, social events organised, period ends (for me) & work roadshow projects happening (for C) at inconvenient times. Atlanta as a choice has come & gone & come back & gone again, but its persistently waiting Schroëdinger-like in the wings. Malta has been raised, rejected, raised again & is now a possibility, but “it depends”. A trip to Hadrians wall was speculatively raised, discussed and finally agreed on last night! But then we found that we couldn’t actually go at any point until late September, when the weather has a distinctly good chance of being bad.
So. I don’t know. I *do* know that I’ve had 6 & a half days off this year so far: 5 to move house, half to arrange my mortgage with the financial advisors and single day off in January to sort out my finances. What a wonderful break that was.
Given this disaster, you really need a PhD to understand my holiday request forms (I've sent in about 8 in the last 2 months) & my boss is - entirely reasonably - demanding a final settlement, showing when I’m here & when I’m away, because she cant understand what is going on.
But the thing is, I’m dependent on:
- Me being able to get holiday booked
- C being able to get holiday booked
- Other people being available (visiting people etc)
- Other Social activities not getting in the way.
- Caroles getting time off her proposed 3 month-long roadshow
And coordinating this is (especially as her boss has conveniently taken 4 weeks holiday) is proving near-impossible.
I WANT A HOLIDAY.
