We had Caroles dad over this weekend, along with some friends of his, all of whom are biker enthusiasts. They came over on Thursday & went to the TT races in Assen, returning on Saturday. In determination to give thanks for our hospitality, a fair edge of competition emerged, all of which basically means that I’ve eaten & drunk so much over the last 2 & a bit days that todays weigh-in was cancelled, as was todays breakfast (and possibly all meals until Wednesday) because I’m still digesting last nights fantastic meal.
On the plus side, we’ve found the local equivalent of the Grove café; we feasted on an utterly superb mixed tandoori, naans, sag aloo, a dish called “Ghurkha Beef” (delicious), and many others, all washed down with a few beers. I’m pleased to report to the Leeds Collective that it is comparable to the Grove, albeit a bit pricier, but they allow alcohol on the premises. In all, a solid 9 out of 10 (the Grove being 10. This place looses out because they only do curries, and none of the Groves fantastic pizzas). A return trip is definitely planned as its easily the best Indian restaurant I’ve encountered over here. And its within 10 minutes gentle walk from my front door. Gosh darn it.
After that, we went & experienced the end of the Hilversum concert; live music provided by some decent musicians who ended on Robbie Williams ‘Angels’ photoshopped with the chorus of “Hey Jude” (I’m loving angels instead…. Naaa Naa Na NaNaNa Naaaa). Our interest in the music sadly waned after this when they launched into a medley of hurdey-gurdey traditional Dutch folk-songs (we think) which left us cold – but even so, still a fantastic conclusion to a very good weekend.
Sadly this coming week is going to be a bit rough for several reasons. Firstly, its quarter-end, which means that I’m going to be working late most days. Secondly (and much more irritatingly), C is going to be ‘away’ this week. Aside from the daily 2 hour commute to get to & from Eindhoven (as usual), shes also got trips to Hamburg & Brussels arranged for work, followed up by a weekend at her parents in Gatwick, so I'm not going to be seeing much of her until next Monday!!
Not good. Still, such is life, I guess.
