Today I am waging total war against Sarbanes Oxley. Again. My mission is somewhat hampered by a colleague who is being an ars3 - in response to asking ‘could I get the following information from you?’ he responded (and I quote) ‘Why should I? You need it not me’ which really demonstrates the level of childish pigheadedness that I’m having to deal with – and, on a deeper level, just how much other people like this process as well.

Still & all, its got to be completed by 5pm on Friday, come hell or high-water, as there will be an “Out of Office error” coming into force at 17:00:01, no matter what anyone says.

In other news, I’ve just come out of a meeting with my boss, where we had a long discussion about month-end tasks & when I need to be in on those specific mornings. The conclusion is that I have to be here (in the office) for ‘about 7-45’ on the mornings of the close – but at the same time, it is recognised that I a) have to come in by train, so ‘stuff happens’, b) I do not have a laptop, so there is no possibility of me working from home (though the heavy hint of ‘being able to work from home would be a great help’ was missed by my boss) & c) these reports are not going to be needed anyway in the near future, so come January, the entire thing will be rendered moot, which will greatly improve my quality of life!

I’ve also told my manager that I want to move more into IT & out of finance – there appear to be a series of decent roles on the cards regarding database construction & implementation (similar to the job of interest in Den Bosch, that I decided not to take). How long any proposed move would take is pretty much impossible to determine (how long is a piece of string?), but I expect that I’m going to be in my role for the next year at least. I think that this is a good fit for my temperament & existing skills & I can definitely see myself in IT in the longer term. Who knows, perhaps I can multi-class as an Accountant/IT Project Manager? Though future levelling up might be a bit of a problem, given that the XP would get split…

Lastly, the moustache is starting to demonstrate twirlyness & my body language has definitely changed to include several new gestures, including pensive stroking of the upper lip, which has all manner of implications*. Deep down I have concerns that I’m going to encounter dark urges to tie women to train tracks soon; all it takes is for someone to start playing chase-music on a piano or Wurlitzer organ in my vicinity and I wont be held responsible for the consequences…
