Back home now. Delivery completed with almost text-book perfection - Daniel arrived at 7-54pm yesterday evening after a remarkably short period of labour. Daniel weighed in excess of 4.6 kilos, so they decided to keep us in overnight to check his blood sugar levels; babies of this size, whilst not unusual, can have potential problems with gestational diabetes,so they wanted to monitor and confirm before they let us go.
Turns out that, of course, he's just a very large baby (delivered without painkillers too), and hes astonishingly tranquil: we got a decent amount of sleep last night, and he seems to love just lying on my chest, which is an astonishingly powerful emotional sensation. He's fed on & off throughout the night, and the other end is working too, so, after a quick check, they gave us a clean bill of health and a follow-up appointment for 3 days time.
Incidentally, yesterday was C's fathers birthday, and, as such, his name has been changed ever so slightly: his full name is Daniel Aiden David Parkinson.
So yes, we're home, safe & well, and with a snuggly, snuffly creature. Lyra, of course, thinks that the apocalypse has happened, but I hope that we can reassure her somewhat.
Love to one and all.
Off to get a cup of tea and a shower now
