Things continue to go moderately well; Daniel is now putting on weight once more, following the post-birth hiatus, and we’re got a routine in place that sees him sleep for about 6 – 7 hours each night in 3 or 4 hour blocks. With a slight adjustment to our bedtime routines, something approaching our previous life & sleep pattern has already been achieved with relatively minimal effort.

Of course, I’ve been having strange dreams, almost certainly as a result of my broken sleep, but they’re not about Daniel. They’re about Caitlin; the most vivid one I recall was her playing at the window ledge in our bedroom and… she fell out, or rather, vanished when she went through the window. Oddly it didn’t feature a complete panic attack, more a sort of recognition that this is somehow oddly correct – perhaps its my subconscious letting go? I don’t know. Its one interpretation at least and it seems a fairly benevolent one at that, so its my preferred choice.

Today marks the last day of our wonderful helper-lady; she’s been nothing short of utterly excellent and we are going to miss her when she’s gone. Still, we’ve got to keep on making progress and her work here is done – it now falls to the usual suspects (ie me & C) to keep the house clean & do the shopping & cooking & ironing & all the other tasks. We’d keep her, but we know that we cant - after all, her work here is done; other people need her services – all she needs is a cape and a penchant for fighting crime and she’d be a most welcome superheroine.

Allie is going to cook a roast pork dinner for tonights meal, which we’re really looking forward to – the cuts of meat here are different, so you cant get crackling - and we’re going to be generally celebrate the success of the last few days. Still, there have been some failings too – Dave and I tried to find the power source of the kitchen lights… to no avail. Now, me not find them is one thing, but Dave – an experienced electrical engineer – not being able to find them came as a real surprise. As such, and assuming a semi-decent nights sleep, we’re going to attack the kitchen ceiling with gusto tomorrow and fix the darn things: we cant endure ‘no lights’ indefinitely and its raised Daves curiosity as well.

Also, I’ve finally agreed whats happening concerning my work – I’m going to be back in the office on the 2nd of May, but I’ll be off until the 27th, and I’ll work from home on the 28th & 29th, to help with the month-end. This will give me 2 full weeks at home with Daniel & 2 days of semi-attentive behaviour, so thats not too bad.

And that’s it. More updates when I get them.
