Change of plans
Jun. 21st, 2012 09:01 amLast night, we got burgled.
Someone entered the house at about 4-15am, though, thanks to a combination of C hearing them (she had settled D about 10 minutes previously, so was half-awake) and our ground floorboards being very squeaky we heard them pretty much immediately, and soon scared them off.
We dont think that it was a casual attempt either - at 4am the streets are totally empty, so it is unlikely that it was an opportunistic event (oh look, that door is open at 4am, I'll just wander in) as they would have to walk right up to the door to see that it was open (we know that it definitely was not wide open). Also, there is no other evidence of forced entry (no windows broken, no door forced etc), which means that either they picked the lock, or they had a key - in either regard we need to change the locks asap.
On the other hand, going to Leeds / Liverpool this weekend is completely out of the question - at least not until the house is secure & we feel comfortable enough to contemplate one person being away. C put it succinclty: what would she have done had I not been there? Can I contemplate the idea of leaving my heavily pregnant wife with a 1-year-old and leaving her to confront a burglar on her own, whilst I'm off partying in another country?
Hmm. I dont think so.

EDIT: the sentiment expressed has been overruled by subsequent events.
