Hurry up & then wait
Nov. 1st, 2005 12:11 pmWell, I’ve got more stuff to do than I know what to do with – sadly, all of it is due to be delivered to me from someone else, so right now, I’m rather at a loose-end, waiting for them to send me stuff through to me, so I thought I’d update my LJ for a mo.
C is flying back to the UK today (boo) to get our cat (yay!) and she should be back in Amsterdam on Friday morning – so that’s something to look forward to – but I’m obviously not happy that I’m going to be away from her for 3 nights. Still no news about her gran, but the landline was ringing when I spoke to her (on her mobile); perhaps there’s some news in the offing? I don’t know. If there is, I hope that its good news.
Also, her laptop still wont talk to the wireless internet connection, so shes pretty much forced to work upstairs, so that, when she needs to download files, she can plug her machine into the hole in the wall. Hopefully, we can get this sorted out soon-ish, cos, whilst work-arounds are ok in the short-term, they’re no good in the longer term; we need this sorted. Properly, cos its driving her slowly mental – though I think that this is displacement activity.
What else? Well, C & I went to Wagamama’s restaurant yesterday, and it was pleasant, but not “astounding”; though I have to admit that I’m falling into the trap of comparing my Leeds favourite restaurant (Fuji Hiro) with a new place. My biggest gripe is that the Dutch don’t seem to grasp the concept of spices (several people here have tried to convince me – and an Indian guy - that onion soup is actually insanely spicy, despite all evidence to the contrary, and have never heard of curries etc, which goes to show you that they’re talking twaddle); as such, when presented with a recipe for something spicy, they tend to go crazy & overload it the other way as they have no reference that it should be “about here” in spice levels. The Chilli Chicken Ramen had AT LEAST 3 full, large & very hot chill peppers in it, rather than “just enough for the point to be made” which is (to my mind) how it should be. Still, it was ‘pleasant enough’ experience and I’d do it again.
And that’s about it. Um. Can I go now?
