Jan. 9th, 2006 08:58 amFirst off, an weight update: 83.5 kg – no change from last week, which is good enough, I think. It means that I have passed my official weight goal for the end of the year (under 84kb by 9th Jan), despite my ravenous hunger & wanton violation of my diet last night (10pm toast-fest). With any luck I will be able to get to 80kg and remain there some time this year!
It was an interesting afternoon yesterday; Carole went out for a run with the local hashers, whilst I remained at home and did BNW diplomacy, housework (cooking etc), as well as reading most of 2005’s PvP on t’internet (very funny – big thanks to Grampus for having that link on his LJ). Now, concerning housework, I expected C to be pleased with my efforts when she came home and when she wasn’t I went into a pensive mood about it all, thinking it through as we watched a DVD about Captain Corelli & his mandarin. After several hours of thought, I concluded I was being an total ars3. Why should Carole thank me for doing housework, or be pleased that I have done some? That reasoning assumes that the housework is Caroles job and I am, somehow, doing her a favour. So, I gave myself a thorough mental kicking and have made wide-ranging promises to “be a better husband” – though I question my ability to do this for any length of time…
What else? I finished “The Long Emergency” some time ago (about 3 or 4 days ago, to be honest) and it was interesting, but I don’t recommend it. ( book review )
The new book, on the other hand is entitled “observing the English” which is very good; an anthropological study of English habits & mannerisms. I’d recommend it to all here, as its been a very interesting read so far.
Right then. I suppose I’d better stop prevaricating and actually get on with some work…
