Its Wednesday. I came in deliberately late today (9:10) in an attempt to deliberately come in later than my colleagues who also seem to go home earlier than me. They weren’t in, but arrived 25 –30 minutes later. I am now working on the assumption that they are psychological phenomena – possibly a hallucination brought on by lack of sleep, or perhaps some sort of manifestation of an allergic reaction to something in the office.

Still and all, I’ve done close to 25 hours already this week (in 2 days) so its looking fairly likely that I’ll be able to plea-bargain with my boss (hallucination or not) to take some time off in lieu – possibly as much as half a day, which would be useful next Monday as I’ve got to attend a university interview to find out which class I am best suited to, in order to learn the local lingo. IN addition to the university course, I am also subjecting myself to some in-house lessons starting this Thursday pm to further bootstrap myself; essentially Carole is so good at learning languages that I have to put in extra effort if I am even vaguely even going to keep up with her – but its only 2 afternoons a week, so it should be manageable… I hope!

C & I are also now negotiating with each other on holidays too – we both want to get our diving qualifications sorted out before March, so that’s going to require us to return to the UK for the best part of a week. In addition, I also want to spend a long weekend back in the UK sometime at the end of February. I guess it all depends on the money we have in the bank, but this is looking “more likely than not”, which would be very pleasant, if it could be arranged.

In other news (that might affect holiday plans etc), I am definitely coming down with some ailment; my head is sore, my arms feel as though someone has injected lead into them and I’m generally “exhausted” – both mentally & physically. It could be to do with the whole fubar-that-is-quarter-(and-year)-end- accounts, as I was like this last quarter-end, but this one is rather special, cos my eyes feel all gritty too, which is rarely a good sign. As a result, the downstairs café is doing a roaring trade in double coffees (the slop from the machine tastes as though someone has heard of coffee, but that’s about it), and I suspect that they’re all going to be buying yachts in the next week, given the amount of money I am spending there…

Outside of that, the house is a tip; when I came home last night, I did about an hour of basic house cleaning & maintenance, but there is more than enough there to be done. Tonights task: vacuum cleaning. What a whirlwind mad-cap existence? And here was me thinking that living in Amsterdam would be riotous experience of cheap drugs and 24-hour parties. How wrong could I be?
