Amsterdam Editorial
Jan. 12th, 2006 11:09 amIt would appear that someone has stolen Amsterdam; the city is shrouded in impenetrable thick, icy fog. As I look out of the window, its as though I’ve gone selectively blind. Either that or my office is located in Carcossa… the place where time stops, its never time to go home, reality warps and it just sucks you in…
…hmm. Its more likely than not that I actually do work in Carsossa*, by those criteria…
Aside from that, it was another banner day in the office yesterday; I am seriously tempted to have a siren, or possibly some sort of illuminated sign that gets activated at 5pm. It would read “Its after 5pm, whatever you want will not be started until tomorrow”, but I suspect that this would be unethical, and (more importantly) be ineffective.
As to the ‘coming in later than officemates’ thing, today was ironic; I got in for 9-05, and was reprimanded (admittedly gently & in a humorous fashion) by some of my colleagues. You know, jokes about being a part-timer and the like, which cased me to remark a few pithy & not-so ironic remarks back again, along the lines of “scr3w you, monk3yboy– I was here 5 hours longer than you yesterday”, which caused some raised eyebrows and hasty back-peddling on their part. From ironic & joking they went to “here’s the love”, so a job well done there, I think.
