2 things.
1. Today is my anniversary of starting employment here in Amsterdam. Ordinarily this would not be a big thing, but (I am reliably informed) under Dutch employment law, the first 12 months of a contract are essentially ‘temporary’, meaning that it is very easy to get rid of you, should your employer be capricious. As I have completed 12 months, I am now considerably more secure in my role. Go me!
2. To celebrate (appropriately, given that C is not around tonight & tomorrow) I shall be installing EVE on my machine. I’ve been reading the players guide in the last few minutes (I’m on my lunch), and I’m very impressed with what I’ve seen so far.
Which brings me to some questions about EVE. If there is a friendly more experienced player out there (possibly Sendracks, possibly not), then knowing the following would help me get started:
- How widely-spread are the races distributed around the gameverse? I ask as Jon has opted to play a Gallente, whilst I’m tempted (from the character write-ups) to play a Caldare Civire. Would this necessitate several hours of travel, simply to meet up?
- I appreciate that there are faction standings & the like, but are there any instant reputation killers out there that would be useful to know?
- Do the different races, in themselves, dislike each other? (Ie All Gallenti hate the Amarr?)
- How does communication take place on the group? Jon mentioned to me the other day that he did not have Sendracks' email address and yet they were in contact in the game. How does this take place? And how can you tell who you are in contact with?
That’s about it. Hopefully (all being well) I’ll be on-line some time tonight.
