First raid

Did my first group raid in Eve last night and I learned several things:

1. The Gallente destroyer is a slow, heavy brick. I need a faster ship. Much much much faster. The number of times I was ahead of the pack to get to a target & everyone overtook me…!

2. I need to sort out the ‘what I’m firing’ issue; railguns are good, but frankly, it no damn use if you cant get into range with them (so got to be faster). Also, if you’re at medium range, everyone can go for you. I need to decide whether to be close (under 5km?), or be far away (40km?), not in the middle (20km). (Advice on the range issue would be appreciated. Are these numbers suitable descriptors of short/medium/long ranges?)

3. Thanks to Sendraks & the rest of the gang, its highly profitable venture – I made about 2 & a half mill in the 3 hours-odd we were playing. Another one of these and I can afford myself a cruiser (cant fly it though – perhaps next week).

4. I need to install the headset, as the mic only worked when I picked it up & held it to my mouth, like an old fashioned CB radio.

Overall, much good fun – especially the bit where Nick was suddenly in a completely different system! Thought, to be fair, the server was a bit strange last night – I randomly docked at a station & there were issues about gang leadership that kept on cropping up (kicking Giles out & giving it to Nick - hardly Nicks fault, but it was amusing!)

Also, it was good to be involved with friends again. Definitely up for a few more of these, but I’m not sure that Thursdays are the best day of the week for me in the longer term.

PS Anyone else having troubles with the LJ communities? It doesn't list this in 'my communities' and I've got to wade through my messages to find the link to get here. Any ideas?

I’ve read in the Economist that there is now a campaign to upgrade Pluto back to full planet status.

How confused are the poor alien invaders going to be if this happens? They’ll have just updated their maps & be read to invade, when we go & change the signposts. Again.

Of course, if we do happen to notice the invasion of Mars by a slightly bemused set of aliens then we’ll know what has happened.
