A news article today reminded me of a program I saw on the Discovery Channel just before I went on my holidays; it was the story of a young woman who was swimming with friends and who was mysteriously killed – being pulled beneath the water abruptly & inexplicably.
I admit that I might have missed some crucial elements as I turned the story on halfway through, but the narrator related the utter lack of knowledge that her friends had – what had happened to her? She was fine & then suddenly she was absent! The build-up in tension, the mystery & general uncertain-ness of what had actually happened to her, was questioned, highlighted & revisited several times between repeated advert breaks. What *could* it be?
And then it transpired that she & her friends had gone swimming in a crocodile* reservation in Australia, and had been subsequently eaten.
A tragedy, certainly - but not warranting the build up in mystery that the program had undergone. A simple "woman goes swimming in crocodile reservation & gets eaten" would have sufficed.

* Or possibly alligator. I cant remember.
