Life & all that that entrails
Dec. 21st, 2006 12:37 pmThe television has started to make a piercing high-pitched whine; I am understandably unimpressed with this development. It used to do this when we first bought it, but it settled down fairly quickly – and even then, it was only very briefly when it was just warming up; yesterday, I got a screech that scared the cat & wouldn’t go away despite repeated going-away & turning the TV off for a few minutes (that sometimes works). Not good.
In other news, C reports that we are now the proud owners of a fully functional digital TV system, now with added features, including about 10 new channels, including BBC 3 & 4 and film on demand facility. In all, good. I look forward to cooing at it later on tonight – assuming that the TV itself doesn’t protest too much. Speaking of TV, I happened upon Torchwood & was vaguely impressed; it did a story that was actually rather interesting to watch, fitted the genre & didn't really depend on the a) existing characters ob b) a ludicrous resolution. Well done.
This morning was the day of quarter-end trauma, with me being in the office early (7-40ish), missing breakfast with the aim of getting the year-end stuff completed by 10am. I am glad to report that I managed to get most of the reports done by 10, but I’ve got a load of problems, stemming from the guy who I’ve replaced setting up various entities incorrectly. Meh.
We also had 2 bouncing mice stuck in a bin here. Obviously they’d read the entry from Rosie_t_riveter, and were inspired; they were trapped & were trying to leap out, but couldn’t quite make it, falling just shy of escape velocity (albeit not through lack of effort). In the end, the bin was knocked over when a woman colleague who’d just arrived leaned in too close to see what the fuss was & had a brief encounter with a mouse who was in the process of accelerating towards her face; both were traumatised, but only she screamed in shock & knocked the bin over. Anyway, 2 furry streaks of mouse-like lightning made a direct line for the undersides of various cabinets.
