Sunday afternoon
Apr. 1st, 2007 01:30 pmC & I went to the house in Hilversum yesterday and measured for where furniture is going to go, so the move in 2 weeks time is shaping up nicely. The only downside is that - after much thought reflection - we've decided that we're going to unlease an electrician on the place, which is going to slow the decorations plans down a bit. Ok, its not a major full-blown project, as apparently the electical stuff is perfectly servicable - but the bulk of it is incoveniently placed, looks ' tired' and generally needs an upgrade.
The main thing that caused the change was the fact that the previous owner was something of a DIY enthusiast, but had no knowledge of electrical products etc. As a result, we've got things that work in the upstairs (like lights & so on) that are powered through the simple expedient of drilling a hole in the floor & running a powercable to a plug downstaris. Also the fusebox is... confusing. Usually there is a single switch that is the master on/off for the house - but there doesn't seem to be one. Also, there are no ceiling mounted lights in the main room downstairs.
Overall, its about in the same state of repair as no: 22 was when we moved in, except its obvious ' must improve' area is the electrical system, rather than the kitchen - though I would prefer to get Caroles dad over here to take a look at it; a bit of informed consulatation would be very useful, I think.
Anyway. I have friends coming over any moment to play Shadows over Camelot & drink wine, so my afternoon is rather packed as you can tell.
