Ahh Wednesday! How do I love thee?
Oct. 3rd, 2007 12:27 pmSo far so good - I've survived the first 2.5 days, meaning that we're all now past halfway in the week & we're officially now on the count-down to weekend! Yay! Moreover, we have a packed weekend ahead of us as C & I intend to travel to Groeningen to stay over with Alexander & Rinnike, for a weekend of boardgames. So that’s something that I'm definitely looking forward to!
In other news, I’ve been told that I’m getting a laptop by the uberboss; this is something of a mixed blessing, but having the option to work from home will be pleasant – though he reacted with some anger when he found out that I still hadn't got one. In fact, his precise response was “why the f**k don’t you have a laptop? Everyone else f**king well does. Get it sorted. You need a laptop”. So there.
Also, tomorrow is a very important anniversary. On October 4th 1957, Sputnik 1 was launched, heralding the dawn of the space age, so Happy 50th Birthday, Space Age! Of course, the heady dreams of moonbases & men on Mars (etc) are long-gone, with programs are now subject to normal financial plans rather than ‘we must beat the Reds’, but I still think that the achievements are spectacular & inspiring.
On the other hand, and given a bit of luck we might even begin to make real progress in Space, now that the shuttle is being retired soon & NASA isn't going to be shackled to a twitchy 1960’s design that was chosen primarily because of the number of jobs it would create in California…
