Still nothing to report, I'm sorry to say for all you viewerers and reviewers out there. We were moved onto the ward last night - at about 11-30, which made me grumpy, as I had thought that I would be unable to be with C. Despite my moaning, their reasoning was that they needed the room for an imminent delivery, so I really had no cause for complaint. Fortunately, they've civilised over here and, 'the ward' involved us being ensconced in a suite of rooms, complete with en suite bathroom. Absolutely marvellous. We managed to get about 6 hours sleep before we were woken and returned to the delivery rooms (about 20 minutes ago), so were a touch groggy but still fairly rested and with it.

Since then, C has had an exam and they've said that she's slightly more dilated than yesterday evening, and its looking as though Katie will be making an appearance today some time (though I said that before, and look where it got us!)

In other news, as you might have seen on C's posts, my parents have gone back to Hilversum. I talked my dad through turning on the TV & getting onto the satellite channels, my mum through how to use the washing machine, and where the sugar was, and was, in turn, informed that my cat has foresaken us and now loves my parents. For people who only relatively recently converted to being 'cat people' my parents are utterly taken with Lyra; Lyra, of course, is pretty much designed to be as enchanting as possible to prone humans that may have access to chicken and is putting up with being adored with fairly good grace, demonstrating almost super-feline levels of strumpet-ness, up to & including 'snuggling up on the bed' thing. *rolls eyes* I shall have to reprimand her thoroughly when I get home!

So things are going well; we're a bit tired, but I suspect that we're both going to be able to catch some sleep later on today. Also, we expect C's induction to be moved up a gear today; as we're still relatively early (12 days ahead of guestimated due date), we expect the big guns to be wheeled out.

I'll keep you informed.

Still here

The latest review of C's labour is that Katie is probably going to be turning up tomorrow at some point; whilst C has made progress & the contractions are stronger, there is a way to go - primarily because the treatment was halted overnight, so C has pretty much spent the last 12 hours making up for the lost ground; indeed, her contractions were so light as to be non-existent at around 10am, which was rather disappointing for us.

The current proto-plan is for C to get medication tonight at 8pm, get a good nights sleep and then restart treatment at 4am. This should mean that she wont go relapse (as it were) and will be fresh for 'the big push' tomorrow.

Them's the plans, at any rate.

Its odd being here. A curious mixture of profound anticipation, fear and astonishment at the wonderful process. Mind you, the main emotion for both of us is now boredom. C is dozing, and I'm alone, in charge of a laptop.

So, now for a world first. I'm about to fire up Plants vs Zombies - in the delivery room, whilst C dozes.

Thought so

Just had the midwife in for the final consultation of the evening - she's confirmed that the expected proto-plan was fairly close to their ultimate intentions. C has been given the final dose of low grade medication and is going to have the big guns wheeled out tomorrow morning; at 7am they are going to break her waters and start her the enhanced medication, via a drip.

To an extent we're approaching a deadline; if possible, we need Katie to be born during daylight hours of the working week, which means that either we get things done tomorrow, or we face things in the weekend, which is not optimal, given her conditon. Obviously, if things happen in the weekend, then I expect doctors to cater to our child, not the other way round, but if we can meet Katie sooner, then this will be better, as - if nothing else - it will result in less stress for all concerned.

They hope that C's contractions will progress during the night, but she has made sterling progress today; essentially, she's ready to go, so tomorrow is looking promising vis a vis delivery. Again, the staff have been superb - they are providing me with a bed in the same room as C & its going to be lights out in about 30 minutes, which allows us all to prepare for tomorrows activity.
