When in a hole, jump on a bandwagon!

I see that the 'Real IRA' is diversifying.

Instead of blowing up crucial strategic British targets such as markets (the Omagh bombing) and polling stations in their attempt to ‘liberate Northern Ireland’, they have announced an intention to diversify their targets to attack British Banks & Financial institutions, on the grounds that fat-cat capitalists are next of kin to democratically elected, sorry, eeeevil politicians.

 

Which is strange on a variety of fronts. First of all, why are they trying to garner sympathy in the public consciousness? They’re terrorists, who slaughter people indiscriminately; why try and adopt a more ‘caring’ image?  Secondly, their choice of language is strange – they appear to be objecting more to Capitalism in the UK than Northern Ireland in the UK.

 

Still, we must welcome these changes. Their desire to focus their efforts away from targets that are crowded and offer high chances of indiscriminate slaughter to ones that are heavily policed means that there are probably going to be less casualties as a result, and a much higher chance of them getting caught or shot in the process.

 

Also, I look forward to the point where they decide to rebrand themselves to adopt a more caring image within the public consciousness. Perhaps they could become The Peoples IRA or the ‘Revolutionary Greens’ (in an alliance with eco-terrorists) or perhaps they could all just go the whole hog and join Al-Qaeda (there’s more money there, afterall) & finally be regarded as the bigots they actually are, over on the other side of the Atlantic.

 

Whatever they choose to join, I look forward to the new logo, and possibly even a range of consciousness-raising action figures.

 

You see, with theses statements, whatever moral code they might have once claimed has been totally abrogated. They cant claim that they’re ‘principled murderers’ (as it were), fighting for a higher cause of Irish liberation – they can be quite clearly seen to be a pack of disaffected thugs who just like blowing things up and miss the good old days when they were a force to be feared in their communities – unlike now, where they’re sidelined, now that all this peace nonsense is being bandied around.

 

They’re just looking for an excuse to justify their malignant behaviour and recruit catspaws via a shoddy PR exercise that boils down to ‘Join us and you can blow up a bank!’

 

Pathetic, isn’t it?
