Right, back from the 12 week scan, and we got a pretty good result; all the scans & combination tests that they have & understand came back clear, so we got a 'congratulations, its a healthy baby' from the midwife. The only thing that they pointed out is that #6 has got a very high PAPP-A blood hormone level (at 6.170), which is on the very elevated side; on the other hand:

a) they've only just decided (about 4 months ago) that 4 is the threshold to be concerned about - but they're not sure that its anything anyway. Probably. Or perhaps the threshold of 4 is incorrect / overly prudent? No-one knows.
b) Daniels was over 4.9 & he's perfectly healthy
& c) this indicator isn't actually used for a specific purpose, so they dont know what, if anything, this means. They've been collating this information for years now, but its never been used, so...?

A quick search on the internet shows that it can, on one hand, be a trailer for Downs - but the scan results over-rule this and show that this is very unlikely as the combination test shows a less than 1: 4200 chance, so its probably not likely to be that. The only other thing that it seems to be (theoretically) linked to (according to the internet) is large birth weight, in which case, yeah, fine, this isn't a problem - we just build them big. Certainly D was a big lad, so if that's all this implies, its not a problem at all.

So, in total, things look good. Incoherent medical advice aside, 6 is obviously doing well, is moving around a lot, is healthy and, seems to be - like his brother - big.
