Friday night fire fighting
Jan. 6th, 2006 12:52 pmWell, its Friday. That alone marks it out as being something special – but it’s a Friday at year end, so its even more extra specially special, as tomorrow I don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn & get in to work, so that’s a very definite plus as far as I’m concerned! I am pleased to report that I got a piece of long awaited & very welcome news yesterday: I got formal acceptance of the Dutch 30% ruling, meaning that 30% of my income is now untaxed. What this actually means is, as yet, unknown – I suspect that I’m now going to be slightly better off per month than I was before I left the UK, but its very definitely welcome as, come April, the house is going to be “significantly worse” when Caroles student loan repayments kick in. Oh well. Easy come, easy go, I guess.
As a bone of particular irritation is the fact that, during the year-end work, I’ve got more work to do than I know what to do with (I’m growling at people that I’m on my lunch as I write this), but to add insult to injury, my boss keeps on giving me extra work, whilst my colleague is sitting there pratting around on the computer – either surfing the web, updating her CV or generally just larking around. Tell me oh community, what is the correct approach to this problem? Do I do be incoherent & unreasonable (storm into bosses office & shout “WHY? WHYYY???”), angry (storm bosses office, shout “Why are you giving work to me? I’m busy, shes not – give it to her!!”) or English (sit in simmering silence and unleash a barrage of snide comments)
I think I’m going to go for option 3, but I can feel an element of option 2 in the offing…
By the way, am I the only person whos noticed trouble logging into LJ? The username & password boxes seem to now go & hide under the other screen icons, making it hard for me to log in… Anyone else noticed this?
