Thoughts & notes
Dec. 11th, 2006 08:21 amI'm waiting to go to work - and its chucking it down out there, so I thought I'd do a quick update instead.
Saturday saw us have Alex & Rinnike come over for alcohol & boardgames; we sprang a substantial part of Essen on them & they seemed to enjoy it - but we got the order wrong, trying to start Turn & Taxis at 1am after Bauensack. Not a good plan. Instead we played the Great Dalmuti for an hour or so before I threw people out. The surprise hit of the night was Shadows over Camelot - Alex & Rinnike were unconvinced during the start-up explanation, but at the end, when both C & I had died, they were shouting at each other as to the best way to a) get the grail & b) stop that last siege engine from filling the lawn. A job well done, I think.
At the end of the evening, there was some discussion about the possibility of gaming on Sunday. I was lukewarm on this, tbh, but Alex was definitely up for it, so we eventually settled on "give us a phone call"; and then they left, after we pried Alex off our DVD collection (clutching some Anime, in fact).
And then the following morning came. Along with a hangover. A very large hangover indeed. As such, any game plans got cancelled out of hand - though I feel that their education into The way of the Geek is progressing nicely with them having mastered boardgames & now falling prey to Anime as well.
Instead of more games, I spent the day moping around the house feeling sorry for myself & also (failing) to install the new digital TV box that the local telecom company has (randomly) sent us - mainly because its got a lot more English channels (BBC 3 & 4 & prime & a range of Discovery channels too); sadly, the box has a fault in it - on plugging it in, we expected a red light to come on - instead we got absolutely nothing. After calling the helpline, the man said he would call back to confirm the engineer coming over on Friday 15th - only he didn't. So we assume that he's going to turn up. Probably.
The weight this morning is a shade over 87 kilos, which is bad bad bad, but I know that I'm better than this would suggest; my clothes fit a lot better than they did several months ago, even though I'm officially the same weight. I put it down to me doing my morning & evening exercises. I estimate that a truer reading from the clothes-fitting thing would be closer to 85, but, well, I'm going with the scales, as that an objective measurement.
Right then. Got to make tracks. Rain seems to have eased off somewhat.
